Genetic transformation of Spizellomyces punctatus, a resource for studying chytrid biology and evolutionary cell biology

Read about our latest research break-through.  We developed genetic transformation of a soil chytrid, Spizellomyces punctatus, and followed up with live-cell imaging to study chytrids (zoosporic fungi) and their unique cell biology. This was the final chapter of Edgar Medina’s PhD thesis.  This project developed into a fun collaboration with the Fritz-Laylin, Ianiri, and Laplante labs.
